Estimates of Electronic Medical Records in U.S. Emergency Departments

A Harvard study reported that 46% of hospital Emergency Departments adopted EHRs.  With Electronic Medical Record (EMRs) are becoming more prevalent in US EDs, advice though only a minority use EMRs in a “meaningful” way, no matter how “meaningful” is defined. This study looks at the applications of EMR’s across the US. The research discusses the nuances of how to define “meaningful use,” and the importance of considering not only adoption, but also full implementation and consequences.
